Check out the Arco di Riccardo, which has stood for 2,000 years in the heart of Trieste’s old town, halfway between the San Giusto Cathedral and the Cavana pedestrian street, on Piazza Barbacan. This Roman gate was opened in the ancient city walls of Tergeste, built on the Hadrian Wall in 33 B.C. The square is home to bars, shops, cafés, and even a tapas restaurant, making it one of the best spots for a night out. The Barbacan Produce, Trieste’s artisan market, is also held here.
