What should you drink?

Coffee!!

Here’s the translation:

Trieste is the capital of coffee, and it would be a shame to miss out on the local brands: Illy, Antica Tostatura Triestina, Hausbrandt, and Excelsior are all made in the city.

However, for coffee drinking, you’ll need to adjust your vocabulary a bit if you want to get what you’re craving:

  • If you want a cappuccino, say „caffè latte” or „cappuccino grande” instead
  • Instead of espresso, use „un nero”
  • For decaf, say „un deca”
  • Instead of espresso macchiato, say „un capo”. And if you want to feel like a true local, ask for it in a glass: „un capo in b” – this is how sailors who transported coffee drank it for centuries, since cup handles would easily break on ships!
  • Iced coffee: Affogato – which is coffee with a scoop of ice cream
  • If you’re looking for something with an extra kick, try Caffè corretto! The recipe is simple: add a splash of grappa, or perhaps sambuca (anise liqueur) or brandy to a shot of espresso!

For a toast Spritzes: While you don’t necessarily have to drink alcohol, somehow in Trieste you often end up with such a drink in your hand. And this happens frequently to others too, not just me, as wherever I walk, winter or summer, morning or evening, these appetizing drinks are everywhere in the city. Yet you hardly ever see drunk people – who can understand this? The must-try drinks are therefore Aperol Spritz, and its slightly redder sibling Campari Spritz.a bodzaszörpösöknek az Hugo Spritz (H nélkül), és természetesen a Prosecco. Salute!

Here’s the translation:

Wines: Try the local wines!

The Tocai Friulano is a native Friuli grape variety from the local wine region, Collio, which is used to make delicious white wine. The name of this wine caused a long and complicated legal dispute between Hungarians and local wine producers, until the European Court of Justice in 2005 confirmed the ban already established in 1993, which prohibits the use of the name „Tocai” for Italian wines after March 31, 2007. You can taste the delicious Friulano in Trieste and in every authentic tavern in our province, but one of my favorite place is „Cemut?”, which in Friulano language means „Come stai?” (How are you?)

Other local white wines include Pinot Grigio, Ribolla Gialla, Malvasia, Vitovska, Picolit and Ramandolo, but you should also try the red wines: Refosco dal peduncolo rosso, Schioppettino, or Pignolo.
