Full-day program:
Public transportation + walking 5-6 km
Visit the Miramare Castle, take a long walk in the park, go to the beach at Barcola, all by boat on the regular Delfino Verde service. The boat departs at 8 and 11 o’clock (schedule) from Molo dei Bersaglieri, make sure to board the boat heading towards Sistiana and buy your ticket to Grignano.

As the boat passes by the castle, start preparing to disembark and get off in Grignano. Go up the stairs from the port into the park, which is free to enter, but it’s worth buying a ticket to the castle to explore the rooms inside. There’s a café in the park where you can grab a sandwich, or you can find a few restaurants in the Grignano port where you can have lunch.
Castello Miramare
The castle and its garden are just like they came to life from a Disney fairy tale.
After leaving the castle, start walking towards Trieste. On the Barcola beach, which is over three kilometers long, you can stop and take a dip anywhere. There are areas with deep water where you can jump in, and sections suitable for small children. On the Trieste side of Barcola, there’s the Pineta – a pine grove – where you can take shelter from the hottest hours under the shady trees. Here you’ll find sports fields and playgrounds, as well as bars and restaurants.
Barcola – the beach
Trieste's free beach, Barcola, stretches for several kilometers with diverse sections of coastline, all the way to the park of the Miramare Castle.
At exactly at 8 pm, the boat departs from the port of Barcola back to the city. If you miss it, you can try the 6 or 36 bus, but they will be very crowded. And don’t forget that after 9 pm, only night buses run, which are quite infrequent, so if you get stuck at a party – which can easily happen – you’ll have to take a taxi.
